Condolence message - Dr. U.S. Singh


We, the member of the Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi are deeply shocked on the sad and untimely demise of Dr. Uma Shankar Singh on 9th May 2024.

 

Dr. Singh had been serving as South Asia Advisor for Research & Partnerships at international Rice Research Institute (IRRI); February, 2019 to March, 2021 as South Asia Coordinator & Country Manager, India at International Potato Centre (CIP); November 2017 to February 2021 as Interim Director of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)-South Asia Regional Centre, India; served IRRI for 10 years & 11 months as founding Director of IRRI South Asia Regional Centre, Varanasi. He pursued his graduate study from the University of Delhi, and his post graduate and PhD from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, India. He began his career at the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India where he served for 24 years in different capacities including 8 years as full professor. His responsibilities involved teaching, research and extension in field of Plant Pathology and Molecular biology and biotechnology. His contributions to the field of plant pathology and his efforts in advancing agricultural science have left an indelible mark on the world. He was the President of Indian Phytopathological Society in 2013.

 

In his death, country has lost a great intellectual and well-wisher of science, plant pathology fraternity and Indian Phytopathological Society. On behalf of the Society, plant pathology fraternity and my own behalf, I express my deep condolence to the departed soul and pray to God that his soul may rest in peace.
