Born on 18th April, 1945 in a small
village Kalawan, Distt. Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. School education from Govt. School Deha, Distt.
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Graduated from College of Agriculture, Solan,
Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1967. Did M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mycology and Plant
Pathology from IARI, New Delhi (1970-1974). Served as Programme Associate in Fort
Foundation in the Department of Mycology and Plant Pathology, IARI, New Delhi
for one year. Contested and won election of Councilor, Indian
Phytopathological Society (Delhi zone) as Ph.D. student. Domesticated Pleurotus sajor –caju for the first time in 1974 proved to be
historical in the field of Mushroom Science which revolutionized the Pleurotus production globally. Joined as Junior Mycologist mushroom in the
Department of Botany, HP University, Shimla at Solan. Visitedthe Netherlands and West Germany in connection with advance training on
cultivation of Agaricus bitorquis and
Pleurotus spp., respectively. Teaching- Graduate and past Graduate
classesYSP UHF Solan 1975- 2005 Guided 5 M.Sc and 11 Ph.D. students on various
facets of mushroom cultivation. Published 95 research papers in journals of
National and International repute. Contributed 5 book chapters/ review articles. Edited the book entitled “Mushroom Cultivation
in India”, 1986 along with Dr. R.K. Agarwala. Besides establishing Mushroom
research facility of National level, framed courses for undergraduate/
postgraduate students specializing in mushrooms in the Department of Mycology
and Plant Pathology of University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan. Retired as Professor and Head, Department of
Mycology and Plant Pathology, UHF, Solan in April, 2005.
