Name of the Award
S. Nagarajan - IPS Travel Sponsorship for Young Researchers
Purpose of the Award
(i) This award shall be considered as human resource development for the future of plant pathology in the country.
(ii) The Society provides travel sponsorship to eight Ph.D. pursuing students, one each from eight zones of IPS, to promote their participation in Annual Meeting and National Symposium of the Society in India, as per terms and conditions given below.
Periodicity and Value of the Award
(i) The Award is annual to attend the annual meeting of IPS from eight Zonal Chapters.
(ii) This consists of “To and fro 3rd AC train fare “by shortest route on production of proof of travel.
(iii) Waving off of the registration fee.
Conditions of the Award
(i) The candidate should be below 30 years of age.
(ii) The candidate should be a member of IPS prior to the selection by the Zonal chapter
(iii) In service candidates, and candidate getting fellowship from any sources, are not eligible
(iv) Certificate of major adviser countersigned by Head of the Department/Institute shall accompany the recommendation from the Zonal chapter.
Eligibility of the Award
A student member of the Society pursuing PhD degree in Plant pathology from eight zones.
Selection of candidates and conditions for the award
(i) It is to encourage young researchers to participate in the national events of IPS from all the eight zones of the country.
(ii) The selection shall be made by the Zonal president and Zonal Councilor in consultation with the department where the student is pursuing PhD based on the information/documents submitted with application to the Zonal President.
(iii) The contest shall be in the form of presentation for ten (8+2min) before a jury of three members appointed by the Zonal President and Secretary. The candidate shall present for eight minutes and answer questions for two minutes. The decision of the jury shall be final.
(iv) Normally, second- or third-year student is preferred as there should be substantial research data to present in the annual meeting.
(v) The recommendations from the Zonal Chapters may be sent to the Secretary IPS for including in the programme.
(vi) The applicant for travel grant for IPS Annual meeting shall not be economically sound or employed anywhere or receive travel grant from other sources.
(vii) The contestant for this travel sponsorship for IPS annual meeting shall not contest for any other contest that year conducted by IPS. This is to avoid students trying for multiple awards in the same year and to promote “one person one award” concept.
Administration of the Sponsorship
The concerned Zonal chapters of the society shall send nominations and shall be accepted by the Secretary IPS/ Executive committee of IPS.
Presentation by the students
(i) The Annual meeting Technical papers screening committee may accommodate the eight candidates receiving travel sponsorship either in oral/ poster session.
(ii) Each of the students nominated from the zones shall make a presentation (oral/poster) in the relevant technical sessions.
(iii) Presentation is compulsory to claim the travel sponsorship.
