Significant Achievements:
I joined as
Lecturer (Research) under National Agricultural Technological Project (NATP) at
the Regional Research Station (Hill Zone), BCKV on 10th September
1991. As per the mandate of the NARP, I performed need based research work on
agricultural and horticultural development for the hill peoples. Thereafter, I
took post-doctoral training in Bose Institute, Kolkata and Kansas State
University, USA under DBT National and overseas Associateship program. I joined
to ICAR-AICRP on Tuber Crops (ICAR), BCKV, Kalyani in 2000 and serving more
than 20 years for Crop Improvement, Crop Production and Crop Protection of Root
and Tuber Crops as well as other crop diseases, plant molecular biology and
genomics as evidenced by the research publications in journals of National and International repute and brought the Award of
best performing ICAR centre of tuber crops research to BCKV. I have developed an active research group in
collaboration with ICAR centers and Universities e.g. Department of Metabolic
Biology, John Inns centre (JIC), Norwich, UK, Department of Plant Molecular
Biology of University of Delhi (South Campus) Departments of Botany, Zoology
and Biotechnology of University of Kalyani, Department of Botany of Calcutta
University and West Bengal State University. As a consequence, I am supervising
as Principal Investigator of several Govt of India funded research projects
from DBT, UGC, Ministry of Agriculture and also operating several Corporate funded
projects and act as a Principal Investigator of the Indo-UK collaborative
project funded by DBT, India-BBSRC, UK under CGAT program. I have established advanced plant pathology
and crop genomics laboratory published several scientific papers and articles
in the International and National journals. We released 12 crop varieties of
high yielding and disease resistant tuber crops. I visited the countries like
USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Thailand, Tanzania,
Kenya, Sri Lanka and delivered several plenary and invited lectures in
different scientific programs. Fourteen students got PhD degree under my
supervision and three students are pursuing PhD dissertation work under my
guidance and several researchers have been working in my laboratory.
